Utah Hunting Season Information and Details

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources releases hunting season information two times every year—big game details in the winter and small game details in August. Make sure you check in to see hunting rules and regulations depending on when you visit.

Big Game Hunting

Big game hunting season in Utah takes place in the spring and goes into the summer. The most common animals found in Utah include elk and buck deer, but some skilled hunters will attempt to pursue moose, bears, cougars, and coyote (which are a part of the predator control program). Before embarking on a hunt for big game, make sure that you acquire all of the proper permits. For more information on specific expeditions, events, and the predator control program during Utah hunting season, go to the DNR website calendar or download the big game guidebook.

Small Game Hunting

Small game hunting season in Utah takes place in the fall, with rabbit, quail, turkey, and pheasant being some of the most popular animals available for hunting. Upland game hunting is a favorite throughout the entire state during this time of the year. If you’re unfamiliar with the territory, several outfitters can lead you on guided hunts through the most bountiful regions. offers a variety of planned hunting excursions and experiences in Panguitch and St. George.
