5 Summer Events You Can’t Miss in 2021
If you’re searching for spectacular summer fun this year, turn your eyes (and your itinerary) to Southern Utah. After months of caution and closures due to Covid-19, many of the area’s best summer events are returning this year – and they’re better than ever. From arts and crafts to astronomy to hot air aviation, there’s a festival – and a feeling – for every member of your group. Here are five summer events you can’t miss in 2021.
Note: all dates are subject to change. Please follow all state and local guidelines regarding public safety.
June 21 – October 9
Spend your summer evening in Shakespearean style at the 2021 Utah Shakespeare Festival. This Tony-awarded event includes an entire season of classic and contemporary plays, backstage tours, theater classes, acting seminars, and more. The 2021 festival will showcase eight plays in three theaters as well as special commemorative events to celebrate the theater’s sixtieth anniversary.
June 9-12, 2021
Enjoy an experience that’s out of this world at the 20th annual Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival. This earthly event celebrates all things astronomy with expert-led events like night hikes, guided stargazing tours, planetary presentations, and more. If you catch them on a cloudless night, the skies above this International Dark Sky park can shine with as many as 7,500 stars and planets!
June 9-12, 2021
Each year, The Panguitch Quilt Walk & Festival celebrates one of the area’s most enduring tales. In the winter of 1864, seven pioneers made a 40-mile trek from Panguitch to Parowan for food and supplies, walking on quilts and blankets to avoid sinking in the waist-deep snow.
Today, their valiant efforts are commemorated with a summer festival full of family fun. Head to Panguitch during the second week of June to enjoy a parade, historic home tours, kids activities, and (of course) quilting shows and classes.
June 25-27, 2021
In Panguitch, nothing says summer like a clear blue sky filled with dozens of colorful hot air balloons. That’s just what you get at the annual Panguitch Valley Balloon Rally – along with a weekend full of live music, arts and crafts, a 5k race, vendor booths, and all other sorts of festival fun. Don’t miss the main event – a Saturday evening Balloon Glow on Main Street!
July 9-10, 2021
Head to the HooDoos at Bryce Canyon for a glimpse into the park’s most iconic resource: the geology. This annual weekend event offers ranger-guided hikes, children’s activities, guest speakers, and guided bus tours of the park’s most stunning geological scenes. It’s sure to be a rockin’ good time!
